Specimen Required: Collect: Plasma separator tube, serum separator tube, or plain red.

Specimen Preparation: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 2 mL serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 1.1 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated.

Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens containing calcium chelating anticoagulants such as citrates, EDTA, or oxalates.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 1 week; Refrigerated: 1 month; Frozen: 1 month

Interpretive Data: An amylase, monomeric result above the upper reference limit is consistent with hyperamylasemia. An amylase, percent monomeric less than 71 percent suggests the presence of macroamylase.

Amylase, monomeric is determined after ultrafiltration. Macroamylase is removed by ultrafiltration and is not measured.
