Dave started working at ARUP as a technologist trainee after obtaining a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Utah. He spent the next 10 years in various technical and management roles in ARUP chemistry laboratories. After earning an MBA, Dave moved from the lab to ARUP Healthcare Advisory Services, where he is able to work more closely with clients. Dave uses his years in the lab to help clients fine-tune their laboratory stewardship programs and craft business plans that expand their outreach business. While these projects sometimes result in clients performing more testing in their own laboratories, he said, it’s all about keeping the test close to the patient. “In the long run, that allows us to be better partners with our clients,” he said. Dave holds both his undergraduate degree and his MBA from the University of Utah. He is certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a technologist in chemistry and has served on the board of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC). Dave has also served as chair of the AACC Clinical Laboratory Scientists Council. A backcountry ski enthusiast, Dave is married, and he and his wife are parents to a Labrador retriever/hound dog mix.
