ARUP Consult®, a free source of laboratory testing information for clinicians, released new and updated resources in February.
ARUP Consult®, a free source of expert guidance in laboratory testing, has released an updated Complement Deficiency topic, revised Hereditary Cancer panels, and a new Rapid Whole Genome Sequencing Test Fact Sheet.
These and other offerings, which summarize current clinical practice guidelines, testing strategies, and relevant technical details, are updated regularly and tailored to clinicians to help them choose the right test at the right time.
Read on for more information about these recent changes. Subscribe to the ARUP Consult monthly newsletter to have updates and highlights like these delivered directly to your inbox.
Complement Testing
Anticomplement component (anti-C5) therapeutics such as eculizumab and ravulizumab inhibit the activation of C5, preventing the proinflammatory response and cell lysis associated with several diseases. Refer to the updated ARUP Consult Complement Testing - Complement Deficiency and Anticomplement Therapeutic Response Monitoring topic for information about which tests are most appropriate for anti-C5 therapeutic response monitoring.
Hereditary Cancer Panels
Hereditary cancer syndromes are often characterized by an early age of disease onset and similar cancers in a single individual or cancers in one or more closely related family members. Pathogenic germline variants in multiple genes have been implicated in hereditary tumors and cancers. To easily explore and compare ARUP’s suite of multigene hereditary cancer panels, refer to the ARUP Consult Hereditary Cancer Panel Comparison tool.
Rapid Whole Genome Sequencing
Rapid whole genome sequencing (rWGS) is used as a comprehensive first-line test for suspected Mendelian genetic conditions in cases of acute clinical presentation (eg, newborns receiving intensive care). For more details about ARUP’s rWGS test, refer to the ARUP Consult Rapid Whole Genome Sequencing Test Fact Sheet.
